  • Overview

    The trucking industry is going through a dynamic phase driven by trends such as electrification, autonomy, connectivity and a new phase of Green House Gas (GHG) regulations. We are looking for an experienced Engineering Supervisor that enjoys and is passionate about testing and validating engines and trucks. This individual will work with cross-functional teams to create opportunities that will lead Navistar vehicles to higher levels of efficiency, quality and driver experience.

     

    The Engineering Supervisor will supervise and direct technical personnel to function within a dynamic prototype test facility. This position will lead a team in support of, but not limited to, vehicle validation, engine validation and component testing.  Candidates are expected to be able to interface with multiple groups, maintain priorities and effectively use their team to accomplish tasks.

     

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Schedule and coordinate work orders with staff
    • Generate documentation and records for work performed as needed
    • Ensure a safe work environment and be the point of contact for safety procedures
    • Ensure department adheres to Quality and Environmental procedures
    • Provide support and direction for other shifts as needed
    • Coordinate staff to complete reactionary work and projects effectively
    • Respond effectively to dynamic situations and demands
    • Develop practices and procedures to accommodate future technology and testing protocols 

    Position Purpose and Requirements

    Coordinate the day-to-day activities of a team of product development associates to ensure that product development operations run according to established specifications and schedules; volume, cost, and wastage targets; and quality standards. Monitor the volume and quality of output and adjust tasks, timing, equipment set-up, or inputs so that specifications are met and resources are used efficiently. Supervise staff to ensure that all product development tasks are performed, and all machines and equipment operated, safely. Train new workers on the organization’s operating procedures and standards. Prepare reports so that performance problems can be identified and resolved. Frequently reports to an Engineering Manager.

     

    Basic Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of engineering or technician experience

    OR

    • At least 5 years of engineering or technician experience

    Additional Requirements

    • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
    • Must be able and willing to work 2nd Shift

    Desired Skills:

    • Knowledge of various work request systems (Access Databases, Maintenance Connection, etc.)
    • Understanding of ISO guidelines
    • Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
    • Able to effectively work within a union environment
    • Knowledge of testing equipment and software (ETAS, data acquisition, specialized equipment)
    • Familiarity with various engine/vehicle test facilities (engine and chassis dynamometers, environmental chambers, vibration equipment, etc.)
