    The Human Machine Interface Engineer will provide feedback on and help define system requirements for current and future HMI layouts in Navistar vehicles. The HMI engineer will play a key role in defining critical aspects of the HMI such as interface design, interaction design, and information architecture.


    Key responsibilities include:

    • Benchmarking industry and non-industry user interfaces to identify and document current performance and future trends
    • Developing HMI specifications and design practices
    • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop vehicle-level solutions
    • Planning and managing customer clinics and user evaluations
    • Conducting vehicle- and component-level validation testing

    Position Purpose and Requirements

    Provides technical and analytical support to Product Development Engineering. May provide direction and guidance to less experienced team members. Refers problems that cannot be resolved to the next level. Serves as a central resource with design, process, manufacturing, test, quality and marketing as the product(s) move to production and distribution. Involvement may last throughout all stages of a product’s lifecycle including modifications, upgrades and maintenance of the product or product line.


    Basic Requirements: 

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
    • At least 5 years experience in product design/development
    • At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities


    • Master’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
    • At least 3 years experience in product design/development
    • At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities


    • PhD in Engineering or Engineering Technology
    • At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities

    Additional Requirements

    • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
    • Experience in Human Factors related to Human Machine Interface (HMI)

    Desired Skills:

    • Experience applying design and cognitive engineering principles to vehicle design.
    • Experience with automotive or heavy truck infotainment, navigation, autonomous driving, or ADAS user interface design.
