  • Overview

    Navistar Vehicle and Powertrain Embedded Software team is responsible for electronic controls’ embedded software requirements, design, coding, testing, software integration and releases. This position is part of the software team and will be working on all aspects of the embedded software development activities. This position will also have exposure to or participate in the development of latest industry technologies such as Multicores, Autosar and Cyber Security etc. 


    This position will be located at Lisle, Illinois.  There are minimal travel requirements with this position. Occasional support at test and development facility in Melrose Park may be required.

    Position Purpose and Requirements

    Provides technical and analytical support to Product Development Engineering. May provide direction and guidance to less experienced team members. Refers problems that cannot be resolved to the next level. Serves as a central resource with design, process, manufacturing, test, quality and marketing as the product(s) move to production and distribution. Involvement may last throughout all stages of a product’s lifecycle including modifications, upgrades and maintenance of the product or product line.


    Basic Requirements: 

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
    • At least 5 years experience in product design/development
    • At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities


    • Master’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
    • At least 3 years experience in product design/development
    • At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities


    • PhD in Engineering or Engineering Technology
    • At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities

    Additional Requirements

    • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
    • Embedded software development experience, particularly with basic software or platform software.
    • Software programming language such as C/C++, embedded software development and testing tools (Canalyzer, RTOS, debuggers, HILs etc)

    Desired Skills:

    • Embedded software development with knowledge of MPC or Tricore family microcontrollers
    • Software debugging using Lauterbach debuggers
    • Problem solving and issue root causing techniques
    • Experience with requirement documentation and system engineering
    • Experience with Vehicle, Powertrain or Engine Control System design.
    • Experience with engineering and quality design and development methodologies: (8D, FMEA, DVP&R)
