The Senior Manufacturing Quality Engineer will lead manufacturing in the establishment and improvement of Quality Assurance Process Controls on all assigned product launches and existing production lines. Work with the factory leaders and staff to insure that Quality is built into our manufacturing processes, maintained, and continuously improved.

  • Coordinate local Manufacturing APQP efforts on assigned product launches per the New Model Launch Handbook.
  • Quality Leader between the Global Quality Planning group in Lisle, IL and the Plant Quality and Manufacturing groups, Reliability Group, and Product Engineering group for new or significantly changed Quality Requirements.
  • Participate in Cross-Functional PFMEA revisions and drive recommended actions to closure.
  • Review the PFMEA draft and lead the development and updating of the Site PFMEA and Control Plan.
  • Support PV Test Plan creation and results review meeting.
  • Support the Pilot Build Events in the factory floor.
  • Follow Up and Review Corrective Actions in the Plants (3 Leg / 5 Why)
  • Analyze process data to establish capability using statistical analysis.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in preventive and corrective action activities.
  • Facilitate continuous improvement to PFMEAs and error proofing
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Purpose and Requirements

Evaluates and implements protocols and methods to inspect and test in-process raw materials and finished products and ensure that they are in compliance with internal and external safety, quality and regulatory standards requirements for distribution. Performs analysis and identifies trends in the inspection of finished products, in-process materials and bulk raw materials, and recommends corrective actions when necessary. Develops processes and tests to determine that appropriate quality control analysis is being performed. Prepares documentation for inspection/testing procedures.  Evaluates and analyzes the efforts in organizing, documenting and interpreting inspection support documents and records. May assure compliance to in-house and/or external specifications and standards (i.e., GLP, GMP, ISO, Six Sigma).

 

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 5 years of Engineering and Quality Control experience

OR

  • Master’s degree
  • At least 3 years of Engineering Quality Control experience

OR

  • At least 7 years of Engineering Quality Control experience

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

Desired Skills:

Experience with PFMEA, Control Plans, Error Proofing, Gage Capability, Process Capability, Process Flow, Preventive Maintenance, Run at Rate, etc.

  • Analytical Problem Solving: Understands problem solving methods – i.e. 8D, root cause analysis, Six Sigma, 3 Leg & 5 Why, and the associated statistical tools used to analyze problems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross functional teams
  • Demonstrated understanding of PFMEAs and their role in Manufacturing
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T and drawing interpretation
  • Experience in error proofing implementation and validation
  • Willing to Travel up to 25%. (US and Mexico Primarily)
  • Ability to work on and manage several large projects simultaneously from start to finish
  • Ability to take on work without a clear answer at the beginning and drive to resolution
  • Willing to travel up to 10%
  • CQE or CQA preferred

  • Experience in Quality, Manufacturing, Assembly or Automotive industry
  • Experience with Trucks, Buses, and Engines and their components
  • Proficient with MS Windows applications
    Team Center Software Experience
  • Experience with CDM – configuration of machines
  • Experience Auditing Machines or Quality Systems (ISO 9001, TS 16949, etc.)
  • CDL or willingness to train to earn a CDL to operate our Truck Cabs on Initial Drive Tests
