  • Overview

    Under the direction of the Director of Risk Management, the Senior Risk Manager will design, negotiate, manage and maintain Navistar’s global insurance programs.  


    Key Responsibilities


    • Manage insurance programs and structures to align insurance coverage with Navistar strategic initiatives and risk appetite
    • Review and confirm exposure data for insurance program submissions, including General Liability, Workers’ Compensation, Auto Liability, Umbrella/Excess Liability, Foreign Liability and First Party Property insurance coverage, including Business Interruption, for all domestic and foreign locations
    • Coordinate placement of complicated liability coverages, including Errors & Omissions, Crime, Fiduciary, Lessors Contingent and Special Liability policies
    • Prepare the analysis of risk financing strategies, retention levels and risk transfer limits
    • Review policy documentation to ensure accuracy; coordinate with broker and insurance companies, as appropriate, to resolve documentation issues
    • Develop financial analysis of insurance renewals to facilitate cost comparisons and develop budget estimates for various lines of insurance
    • Manage single parent captive insurance company domiciled in Bermuda
    • Prepare data for insurance company audits
    • Act as a company-wide resource on risk management issues involving promotional events, new business ventures, real estate and contract/vendor issues; responsible for managing, reviewing and negotiating 100 contracts annually as respects risk management
    • Supervise Risk/Claims Manager


    Position Purpose and Requirements

    With in-depth experience across a broad spectrum of business issues and activities, assesses and communicates business risk. Oversees the analysis of current or proposed business operations to identify areas of potential loss or damage and quantify impact. Provides guidance to business decision-makers on issues and development of risk mitigation strategies. Develops and evaluates policies, processes and standards to reduce risk, minimize business disruption and ensure business continuity and disaster recovery. Implements organizational strategy for mitigation of financial risk, including financing structures, facility and business liability insurance and self-insurance programs. May oversee security and health/safety programs and functions in addition to overall risk management. Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.



    Basic Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years of risk management or insurance experience
    • At least 1 year of management and 2 years of lead experience




    • Master’s Degree and at least 6 years of risk management or insurance experience
    • At least 1 year of management and 2 years of lead experience




    • At least 10 years of risk management or insurance experience
    • At least 1 year of management and 2 years of lead experience


    Additional Requirements

    • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

    Desired Skills:

    • 10+ years of prior business experience, preferably inclusive of:
    • Insurance
    • Management
    • BA/BS degree required; MBA preferred; insurance designations (Chartered Property/Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and/or Associate in Risk Management (ARM) desirable
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
    • Exceptional interpersonal and analytical abilities including fully developed written and verbal communication skills
    • Self-motivated, independent with superior project management skills
    • Extensive knowledge of Risk Management Information Systems, implementation and data integrity issues, and use of system for data management and reporting capabilities
    • Knowledge of information system applications that provide the means to measure and evaluate the cost of risks
