We are currently seeking a Senior Payroll Manager to lead our internal payroll operations for our 7,500 US based employees.  Our workforce is comprised of both union and non-union facilities, geographically spread across the US.  We are seeking a leader, comfortable working with C-level executives as well as cross-functional managers to address issues as they arise.  Leading a staff between 6-9 payroll professionals this role will be instrumental in taking our payroll group to the next level. 

Position Purpose and Requirements

Manages the activities of the payroll function. Develops policies and procedures for payroll process and timekeeping. Ensures the generation of the company payroll, including labor distribution records, vacation and sick leave accrual, overtime and withholding status. Meets all government reporting requirements for payroll taxes, withholding and employer contributions. Evaluates current systems, and recommends and develops operating efficiency improvements.  Monitors and ensures proper documentation of employee benefit payments.  Prepares reports illustrating payroll expenditures, including such items as tax payments and benefit plan disbursements.  May be responsible for sales tax payment and/or stock option administration. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function. 

 

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 10 years of payroll experience, including 4 years management experience

OR

  • Master’s degree and at least 8 years of payroll experience, including 4 years management experience

OR

  • At least 12 years of payroll experience, including 4 years management experience

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

Desired Skills:

  • Proven Ability to lead staff to achieve excellence in performance
  • Demonstrated cross-functional collaboration experience
  • Proficient with MS Office, especially excel
  • Working experience of payroll tax at the Federal, state and Local levels
  • Excellent communications skills both verbal and written
  • Change management, including demonstrated experience in improving processes and developing staff
  • Ability to interpret Union Contracts a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and successfully complete multi-state payrolls and garnishments
  • Demonstrated ability to capitalize on capabilities of HRIS software to improve performance and reduce operating costs
  • PeopleSoft payroll experience a plus
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) strongly preferred
  • Kronos timekeeping experience preferred
  • Accounting background a plus
