Navistar’s Purchasing & Logistics team is seeking a Senior Buyer Sheet Steel / Aluminum to join their team!

 

To be a part of our growing team, you will need to use your expertise in Steel Commodity Purchasing to help internal clients find cost savings with external vendors. You will use your knowledge of steel and aluminum markets to create value for internal customers including Direct Procurement, Finance and Engineering. You will use all of your negotiation experience with both internal and external clients to implement cost reductions, negotiate supply contracts with steel mills, and oversee the status of Navistar’s metal supply chain.


Responsibilities:

The Commodities Team manages $1B+ of raw material spend (ferrous steel and non-ferrous materials such as aluminum, copper, lead, platinum, plastics, petrochemicals, diesel fuel and energy) throughout the supply chain.  This position will be responsible for all aspects of Sheet Steel and Aluminum with the goal of adding significant value to the company's bottom line.  The candidate will serve as an internal consultant in the areas of commodity risk management, and will regularly report progress to Executive Leadership. The successful candidate will understand, analyze, forecast, communicate, and act on movement in the commodities markets.  Also you will utilize advanced tools, such as Navistar’s material brokerage (resale) program as well as financial hedges to effectively manage risk throughout the supply chain, reduce volatility, and produce better-than-market results for the core business. 

Position Purpose and Requirements

Performs supply chain and logistics functions, such as material procurement, production planning, inventory control, outsourcing, vendor selection and distribution.  Creates integrated processes among internal functions (e.g., operations, purchasing and logistics) and outside suppliers.  Responsibilities are within the Supply Chain Management function as a generalist or in a combination of disciplines. 

 

 

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of supply chain, engineering or manufacturing experience
  •  1 year lead experience

OR

  • Master's degree and at least 6 years of supply chain, engineering or manufacturing experience
  • 1 year lead experience

OR

  • At least 10 years of supply chain, engineering or manufacturing experience
  • 1 year lead experience

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
  • Ability to travel approximately 10%

  • Develop commodity management strategies to mitigate impacts of market volatility and improve material cost structure
  • Ability to prepare and deliver business presentations to executive leadership and peers
  • Understanding of how Senior Leadership views problems
  • Strong negotiating experience (preferably in the commodities markets)
  • Ability to accomplish tasks through formal and informal networks and lead through influence
  • Working understanding of steel technical specifications, and how to substitute different inputs and manufacturing processes to achieve improved total landed costs
  • At least 6 years of experience in the areas of data analysis, finance, purchasing, or economics
  • Positive Attitude, Ethics and Values which support our company’s values, and a healthy, high performance culture
  • Project/Program management experience
  • Comfort dealing with risk and uncertainty
  • Ability to analyze product costs and understand underlying cost drivers
  • Technical and/or business understanding of raw materials

  • Demonstrate ability to formulate, communicate, and implement short and long-term strategies for commodities, components and services
  • Experience in effectively managing both internal and external relationships with cross-functional groups and suppliers
