Navistar is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Manager for our truck assembly operations in Springfield Ohio.  This is a leadership position responsible for managing the assignments of approximately 6-10 Manufacturing and Controls engineers.  This position reports directly to the Technical Services Manager. 


Overall responsibilities include: 

  • Management of production floor issues related to equipment and tooling that require engineering support
  • Understanding and resolution of production safety concerns
  • Resolution of production process issues
  • Diagnosing downtime concerns and developing solutions to address them
  • Developing fixtures and other tooling to aid production personnel in the assembly of vehicles
  • Understanding and eliminating sources of waste
  • Maintenance of records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations
  • Maintenance of equipment records and documentation
  • Management and prioritization of workload for assigned engineers
  • Review of product changes and development of manufacturing costs and labor impact for incorporation
  • Interface with design engineering to provide manufacturing feedback on product changes
  • Development of scope of work documents for new equipment, tools or services
  • Review of quotations and selection of suppliers in conjunction with Purchasing personnel
  • Management and implementation of tooling, equipment and process changes in support of product change implementation
  • Development of less experienced engineers in both technical and non-technical skills to become outstanding Manufacturing Engineers

Position Purpose and Requirements

Oversees the planning, development, implementation and maintenance of manufacturing
methods, processes and operations for new and existing products. Ensures the effective use of materials, equipment, and personnel in producing quality products at minimum costs. Acts as a liaison with engineering in releasing new products. Develops systems to maintain reports and record keeping of company products. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.


Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • At least 8 years of product manufacturing experience
  • At least 2 years of management experience


  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • At least 6 years of product manufacturing experience
  • At least 2 years of management experience


  • Doctorate degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • At least 4 years of product manufacturing experience
  • At least 2 years of management experience

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
  • Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering or Industrial Engineering background
  • Familiarity with CAD solid models and detailed 2D drawings
  • Experience in the development of layout proposals
  • Experience in the specification and procurement of equipment and tooling
  • Machine tool supplier evaluation experience
  • Equipment qualification, run-off and plant start-up experience
  • Process implementation and product launch experience
  • Quality assurance strategy and capability documentation familiarity
  • Familiarity with labor standards and labor systems
  • Experience with through-put improvement including uptime and failure analysis
  • Experience with project management for new product and/or assembly process implementation
  • Experience with the facilitation and sometimes leadership in the resolution of issues
  • Experience leading others in the accomplishment of goals and objectives
  • Ability to travel 10%.

Desired Skills:

  • Continuous Improvement and Trouble shooting.
  • Truck or Engine component assembly and or testing experience highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of Automated Process Measurement Systems & Statistical Analysis Tools.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience with Mechanical/Electrical Designs and Automatic Assembly Equipment.
  • Knowledge of Typical Quality Operating Systems
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Principles
  • Experience with MS Windows applications
  • Experience with 3D CAD systems such as Unigraphics, Solid Works or Solid Edge
  • Experience with 2D CAD systems such as AutoCAD
