The Strategic Sourcing Manager is an integral part of the Powertrain procurement team.  The initial goal will be to gain a solid knowledge of the supply base, company and procurement processes, and understanding of the roles and personnel of associated work groups inside Navistar. 


The Strategic Sourcing Manager, with support from the Sourcing Specialist, leads managing Cost, Quality and Delivery performance of the Supply Base for various engine components. Key activities include management of cost reduction projects, leading strategic sourcing activities for new programs and transfer business, supplier contract negotiations and administration, supplier performance management, and developing strategies for tail spend suppliers to effectively consolidate the supply base.


As a Strategic Sourcing Manager, you will participate in the Air & Fuel and Valve Train Commodity Management Teams (CMT), working cross functionally within Navistar, interfacing with product development, program management, quality, manufacturing, risk management, finance, logistics, aftermarket parts, product pricing, supply chain and more.  


Position Purpose and Requirements:


In this role, the Strategic Sourcing Manager will be responsible for: 

  • Working with the Air & Fuel and Valve Train CMTs to develop and execute a commodity strategy that best supports the overall Navistar Procurement strategy
  • Building and managing relationships with cross functional team members and leadership.
  • Building strong strategic partnerships with suppliers to ensure that product quality, on time delivery and service levels are met
  • Leading strategic sourcing decisions for both new product launches as well as transfer business for improved cost, quality, or delivery opportunities
  • Analyzing total cost of ownership, and understanding the underlying cost drivers supporting new business award or cost reduction initiatives for best total landed cost
  • Identifying and developing new cost reduction opportunities using a variety of procurement levers including competitive bidding, global sourcing, negotiation, technology, supply chain/footprint optimization, target costing, aftermarket service parts, etc.
  • Analyzing commodity spend, including developing recommendations for the category and savings opportunities
  • Negotiating with internal customers and external suppliers to maximize results
  • Facilitating communications between external suppliers and various internal departments to resolve queries or issues
  • Leading implementation of cost reduction initiatives

Position Purpose and Requirements

Performs supply chain and logistics functions, such as material procurement, production planning, inventory control, outsourcing, vendor selection and distribution.  Creates integrated processes among internal functions (e.g., operations, purchasing and logistics) and outside suppliers.  Responsibilities are within the Supply Chain Management function as a generalist or in a combination of disciplines. 



Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of supply chain, engineering or manufacturing experience


  • Master's degree and at least 3 years of supply chain, engineering or manufacturing experience


  • At least 7 years of supply chain, engineering or manufacturing experience

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States.
