The Technical Author researches technical content from multiple sources on a variety of topics, then organizes the content into a clear and concise format for the customer and service community.  The purpose of this role is to author and publish documents including but not limited to: Warranty Statements, Operator and Maintenance Manuals, Service Bulletins, Tool Instructions, Service and Diagnostic Manuals.

 

The Technical Author creates, develops, plans, writes, and edits operational, instructional, maintenance, or test procedures for paper, multimedia, or web-based publication. Conducts interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation. Researches and translates technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for nontechnical and technical users. May document engineering processes and specifications. Recommends formats responsive to technical and customer requirements. Produces products that conform to the company documentation and quality assurance standards.

Position Purpose and Requirements

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree

OR

  • At least 2 years of technical writing experience

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

  • Prior experience with ArborText Epic Editor (SGML)or equivalent system, MS Office and MS Project with the ability to teach others to use these packages.
  • Prior experience with Adobe Acrobat, PhotoShop, and Adobe Illustrator
  • Prior experience with CAD systems, engineering drawings, engineering release processes, and Feature codesFamiliarity with International internal computer systems: Pharos, CDMS, and CAD Search
  • Work effectively in a team environment
  • Multilingual capabilities (French, Spanish, Portuguese)
  • Preferred Experience within the Automotive/Heavy Truck industry
  • Preferred ASE certifications
