Navistar’s Cherokee Alabama Facility is a 2.2 Million Square Foot Facility on 700 acres. The facility is used to support various customers in the Rail Car and Shipping Industries including some that sub-lease part of the facility to conduct production operations on-site. 

 

Cherokee Alabama’s operations include: Heavy Metal Fabrication, Assembly Welding - building up welded sub-assemblies, Maintenance Services – contract and facility services,  Blast & Paint services, Axle & Wheel – machining & finishing and Truck Assembly (Railcar wheel, axle & suspension assemblies).

 

We are currently seeking a Manufacturing Operations Supervisor to join our management team.  This role will manage teams of production employees in our wheel and axle machining and assembly areas.

Position Purpose and Requirements

Directs the development and implementation of activities in production area(s) to meet production goals, quality and cost objectives. Prioritizes production schedules based on product introduction, equipment efficiency, and materials supply. Plans and administers procedures and budgets. Makes budgetary recommendations and may control capital expenditures and direct/indirect labor. Develops schedules and manpower requirements
for assigned areas. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

 

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of production/manufacturing experience

OR

  • At least 5 years of production/manufacturing experience

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
  • Experience with Metal Cutting Machinery, including supervisory experience

Desired Skills:

  • Production Operations and Scheduling experience in a Lean Manufacturing environment
  • Wheel and Axle Machining and Assembling experience
  • AAR experience
  • Railcar experience
  • Experience with Kronos Time & Attendance system
  • Strong Leadership, Interpersonal & Conflict Management skills
  • Proficient with MS Office programs
