Custom Engineering – Truck Group : Sr. Product Development Engineer

 

Custom Engineering is responsible for all truck and tractor order engineering needs for North America, Export, and Latin America Truck and Tractor businesses. We are focused on working directly with our Sales Groups, Dealers and Customers to engineer special features into their trucks and tractors that they buy so that when the vehicles are delivered, they are ready to go to work for the end customer. We deal with every area of the truck; we do not specialize in any one area rather our engineers work with every component on a truck from the front bumper to the rear tail lights, and everything in between. We deliver complete engineered packages that meets the needs of our customers.

 

Our group is very fast paced and demanding as our customers need extremely fast turnaround times on their very diverse orders; however, this is a main attraction to our engineers to keep the job fresh, exciting, and interesting. Another is that our engineers are involved in not just the engineering, but also following their designs through working with Purchasing of their new parts, and the Manufacturing of their new features on the trucks as well.

 

Every Custom Engineer starts out by going through a thorough 7 week training program where they are trained in the critical systems of NX, CDMS, EOFF, Pharos, Spectrum, and other systems.  In addition, they spend two weeks at an Assembly Plant putting trucks together to begin to understand the product and processes involved in designing, building, and delivering high quality Navistar trucks.  After the 7 weeks, you enter into a continuous mentoring process to learn more deeply all of Navistar products and all of the systems that comprise each truck.  This mentoring process is a journey over years of exposure to new and challenging projects that develop engineers into great Truck Engineers.

 

We are seeking candidates with a Mechanical Engineering degree and background. 

Position Purpose and Requirements

Provides technical and analytical support to Product Development Engineering. May provide direction and guidance to less experienced team members. Refers problems that cannot be resolved to the next level. Serves as a central resource with design, process, manufacturing, test, quality and marketing as the product(s) move to production and distribution. Involvement may last throughout all stages of a product’s lifecycle including modifications, upgrades and maintenance of the product or product line.

 

Basic Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • At least 2 years experience in product design/development

OR

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
